The first week of winter break

Life Blog #2 (Yeah, I intend on blogging about stuff other than my monotonous life)

Just a quick summary of what I've been up to in the first week of my winter break that I know you guys are dying to hear about.

Movies

I watched two movies, The Hangover 2 and Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, and although I enjoyed both of them, POTC was so much better.

The Hangover 2 pretty much runs along the same sort of line as the first one, with the same characters ending up having a night they can't remember, which they have to figure out by going through their misadventures and having to find one of their guys and so on and so forth. I'm guessing you would have seen the first one, since it was a major hit...unless you're Huy, who lives under a rock (He hasn't seen it!).

Whilst the first movie was very quote-able and made you laugh at the particular adventures of each, the second one doesn't quite live up to the standard set by the first. There aren't as many facebook groups with memorable one-liners from the Hangover 2 because there really aren't many good one-liners.

Also, the scents/stunts from the second movie aren't as funny as the first, although quite amusing, but some of them are just squeamish, and some aren't funny. There is quite a bit of undergraduate humour, which is fine, but some of it just didn't hit for me.

Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides is a film I would recommend over The Hangover 2. Firstly, whilst the same characters are reprised from earlier films, you can watch this without having seen the previous ones, except if you hadn't (Huy...), you should definitely check them out.

Because it is a fantasy-adventure film, there's no emphasis on trying to make you laugh, but there are some great lines and scenes that draw a smirk and help keep the film light, which is great. There's also many nice pictures in the film, some smart ways of portraying scenes and it is very well directed and shot.

The plotline is awesome, although, slightly predictable, but you'll probably be too engrossed in what's going to happen next to care. The acting is also amazing, especially Johnny Depp and Geoffrey Rush, who are absolutely magnificent.

If you plan on watching a movie randomly, check out POTC first, although I haven't seen Kung Fu Panda 2 yet...

And before I go on, please give Huy some abuse at http://mr-vui.blogspot.com/ and then help him with this Melody competition, just by liking his photo and stuff. He's not going to win but he's going to feel loved. You see, if you use push-and-pull, abuse him a little than do something he wants, he's going to think you're awesomer than if you hadn't of done anything.

Restaurants

Well, before I start, I always seem to get badgered for trying to take photos of food and stuff, but now when I blog about said food, I don't have any pretty pictures to accompany my blog.

Not cool.

Anyway, for Sydneysiders, be sure to check out Menya Noodle Bar on George St, City, for awesome udon or soba noodles and fried stuff.

See, now I can't say anything cool cause I can't show you what I had. Gah.

Anyway, it's next to the Pepper Lunch, and it's awesome if you're at the George St. cinemas and you're sick and tired of TimeZone/Galaxy World.

Whatever, I went to other places to eat but I can't be bothered blogging about them because I don't have pictures.

Anyway, what else have I done. I've been to TimeZone and have proven that I am King of Basketball and Daytona, although Daytona is so annoying as people just randomly crash into you and then you flip and then ARGH. So annoying. I break into a turn, so I can accelerate out of the curve like a boss, and then I get rear-ended by one of the players and get owned. Damn.

Also played a bit of actual basketball. Yeah, nothing interesting about that.

What I've been watching on YouTube

Mike Topmkins (@pbpproductions) does awesome acapella mix covers of songs. This is his most recent and there are some of his covers in the suggested videos:

Have you heard of tutting? Some of you might know that I do it. What is it? Well, it originated from making right angles with your arms and hands and stuff, just like the egyptians, but then it has become making awesome shapes and visuals with just your arms and hands. Anyway, what got me into it at the start was watching this guy. Check this finger tutting ad out by JayFunky:

This one just for the laughs:
